Fish Storage Ideas In Disney Dreamlight Valley

Managing storage in Dreamlight Valley can feel a bit overwhelming, especially as your collection grows.

If you’re like me, you like a well organised storage system where everything is categorised and easy to find!

That’s why I’ve put together these storage guides—to help you with the details so you can decide how to organise all of your items.

This guide is all about fish!

Fish Storage

I organise storage in my house by dedicating a room to each collection. That means I have a fish-themed room where all my fish are stored.

Did you know? You can use these aquariums as storage! They have 16 slots and can be purchased from Scrooge’s Store.

However, since fish are categorised as an ingredient, you can also choose to store them alongside other ingredients if you prefer. For example, if you have a kitchen or a pantry.

An important part of storage for me is that I like to know how many of each fish I can store. For example, I might like to keep a collection of 150 of each fish type.

That’s why I have included information on the storage capacity for each method, as shown below.

DDV Fish Storage Example

In this example, the chest holds five fish that can be found in blue ripples. If you use a small chest, it will hold 150 of each of these fish, and you’ll have one spare storage slot.

Dreamlight Valley

There are twenty one different types of fish in Dreamlight Valley. There are also seven types of seafood and two different algae.

Idea One: Chest Per Fish Type

If you want to keep a lot of fish, you could use twenty one chests, with a different fish in each.

A small chest can hold 800 fish, a medium one can hold 1,600, and a large chest can hold 2,400.

Idea Two: Number Based

The chart below outlines the number of chests needed based on the quantity of each type of fish you want to store.

I have included the required number of storage slots and provided various chest options along with their slot capacities.

How to sort fish storage in DDV.

Example: To store 50 of each type of fish, you will need 21 slots, as each slot holds 50 fish. You can store them in one medium chest or two small chests, providing 32 slots. Since you only need 21 slots, you will have 11 slots spare, allowing you to store some extra fish as well.

Fish Storage Tip: Keep a chest by Moana’s boat and transfer all the fish straight to this chest so you don’t have to carry them around!

Idea Three: Ripples

Overview: Sort your fish into chests depending on their ripple colour: white, blue, or orange.
Number of chests: 3

Bass and Here and There fish appear outside ripples. I included these in the white ripple box, but you could create a separate chest for them if you prefer.

For the fish that appear in blue and white ripples, I placed them in the blue box, as there are fewer fish in this category.

Idea Four: Biome

Overview: Sort your fish into chests based on their biome.
Number of chests: 3

Most fish appear in multiple biomes, which makes sorting them into chests a bit trickier. Therefore, I like to combine different biomes and split the fish evenly across three chests.

Other Chests

Here are some other chests you might want to keep alongside your fish.

Seafood: There are seven different types of seafood, which you could split into two chests if you prefer. One for the shells and another for the seafood caught while fishing.

Algae: Seaweed is a crafting material, along with red algae, and a vegetable, so you may want to keep it with other ingredients or with your crafting items.

Festive Fish: Festive fish appear during the Christmas season, and you can catch them only once. Therefore, a small chest is sufficient for storing them. If you’re not planning to display these fish, there aren’t many other uses for them, so you could just tuck them away in the castle chest or in a realm chest.

Eternity Isle

Eternity Isle adds ten new fish and five unique seafood to the game.

Idea One: Chest Per Fish

Since there are ten different types of fish, you could use ten chests to hold each type.

A small chest will keep 800 fish, a medium will keep 1,600, and a large chest will keep 2,400 fish.

Other Chests

Here are some other chests you might want to keep in your fish room or area.

Seafood: You can store seafood with your fish, for example, by biome or ripple, but I like to keep mine in a separate chest.

Crafting Materials: You may want to store crafting materials obtained while fishing alongside other crafting materials rather than with your fish, depending on how you want to organise your items!

The Storybook Vale

The Storybook Vale introduces five new fish and four seafood items across three biomes.

Idea One: Chest Per Fish

There are only five unique types of fish in The Storybook Vale.

If you want to store each type in a separate chest, a small chest holds 800 fish, a medium chest holds 1,600 fish, and a large chest holds 2,400 fish.

Idea Two: By Number

Decide how many of each type of fish you want to store, select a chest combination from the chart below, and organise them in alphabetical order!

The easiest way to sort by ripple is to combine white and blue ripple fish, as koi and sea wolf appear in both.

Idea Four: Biome

Overview: Organise your fish by their natural biome.
Number of chests: 3

Fish in the Storybook Vale only appear in one biome, and so this is an easy way to organise your fish!

Other Chests

Here are some other items you might want to store in a fish room or area, as they are items all found when fishing in the Storybook Vale.

Seafood: Again, you can keep your seafood with your fish and sort them by biome or ripple if you prefer.

Crafting Materials: You might want to store crafting materials in a crafting room or with other crafting supplies, rather than alongside your fish.
