Gem Storage Ideas In Disney Dreamlight Valley
If you’ve been collecting items in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you know how quickly storage space can run out and how easy it is to lose track of your inventory!
That’s why I put together these storage guides. In this guide, I’ll share some ideas on the best ways to organise your gems so your collection is systemised and you can easily find the gem you’re looking for!
Gem Storage Ideas
I organise storage in my house with themed rooms based on specific items. This means I have a room that is dedicated to gems!

However, there are many ways to organise your storage. This guide aims to help you find the best way for you and your gameplay style.
One important aspect for me is knowing how many of each gem I can store. For instance, I might want to make sure I always keep a stock of 100 of each gem type.
That’s why I’ve included information on the storage capacity for each method, like this:

So, in this example, the chest holds four blue and green gems. If you use a small chest, it will hold 200 of each gem, so a total of 800 gems.
Dreamlight Valley
There are a total of 23 gems in Dreamlight Valley: 12 normal gems and 11 shiny gems. Onyx is the only gem without a shiny counterpart.
Idea One: Chest Per Gem
Overview: Each gem type is stored in its own chest.
Number of chests: 12 or 23
If you like to hoard gems, you could make a separate chest for each type. You could even take it one step further and have separate chests for each shiny gem as well!
When you combine shiny gems with their non-shiny counterparts, a small chest can hold 400 of each type of gem, a medium chest can hold 800, and a large chest can hold 1,200.
You will need a total of 12 chests. As there is no shiny onyx, the onyx chest will hold double the amount of gems.
On the other hand, if you’d like to store each type of gem separately, you will need 23 chests. A small chest can hold 800 gems, a medium chest can hold 1,600, and a large chest can hold 2,400.

Idea Two: Number Based
If you want to keep a certain number of each gem, use the chart below to calculate the size and number of chests you need.
You can then sort them however you like, for example, alphabetically.
Example: If you want to keep 50 of each gem, you will need 23 storage slots. You could use one medium chest or two small chests, which provide you with a total of 32 slots.

Idea Three: By Colour
Overview: Sort gems by colour, combining shiny and non-shiny gems.
Number of chests: 9
A simple way to organise your gems is by colour. There are nine gem colours, so you’ll need nine storage chests.

Another option is to split gems evenly by grouping similar colours. You can use six chests: three to hold normal gems and three to hold shiny gems.

Alternatively, you can combine shiny and non-shiny gems using just three chests. In this case, each chest will hold half the number of each gem compared to the numbers above.
Remember: There is no shiny onyx!
Idea Four: By Biome
Overview: Sort gems by the biome in which they are mined.
Number of chests: 3 or 6
You can sort gems by biome, however, gems often appear in multiple biomes, which makes sorting them a bit more complicated.

I found the easiest way to sort them evenly across chests is like this:

It’s not perfect, but it works.
You can use three additional chests for shiny gems, or combine them and store half the amount of gems.
Other Chests
Depending on how you want to organise your items, some other things you might want to keep in this room or area are:
- Vitalys Crystals
- Night Shards
- Dream Shards
- Items from mining such as coal, stone, iron ore and gold nuggets.
Most of these items are crafting materials, so how you want to group them is up to you! I keep Vitalys crystals, night shards and dream shards in my gem room and everything else in my crafting room.

Eternity Isle
Eternity Isle has a total of 6 unique gems, all with a shiny form.
Idea One: Gem Per Chest
Overview: Each gem is stored in its own chest.
Number of chests: 6 or 12
If you choose to combine the gems, a small chest can hold 400 of each type, a medium chest can hold 800, and a large chest can hold 1200.
If you prefer to store the shiny gems separately, you will need a total of 12 chests. In this case, a small chest can hold 800 gems, a medium chest can hold 1,600, and a large chest can hold 2,400.

Idea Two: Number Based
Overview: Decide how many gems of each type you want to store and select a chest arrangement.
If you want to store a specific number of gems, use this chart to calculate the size and number of chests you will need.

Example: To keep 100 of each gem, you will need 24 storage slots. You could use a single medium chest or two small chests, providing 32 slots.
Idea Three: By Colour
Overview: Sort Eternity Isle gems by colour.
Number of chests: 4

You can also divide the gems between two chests: place the blue and green gems in one chest and the red and orange gems in another. This will split the gems evenly, with six types in each chest.
Idea Four: By Biome
Overview: Sort Eternity Isle gems by the biome in which they are mined.
Number of chests: 3

This is another great way to organise your Eternity Isle gems, as they are split evenly between three chests with four types in each.

Other Chests
If you like to keep other mining items alongside your gems, you will also need chests for:
- Copper
- Quartz
- Tin
- Zinc
Storybook Vale
This DLC introduces four new gem types, each with a shiny counterpart.
Idea One: Gem Per Chest
Overview: Keep each gem in their own individual chest.
Number of chests: 4 or 8
When combining gems, a small chest can hold up to 400 of each type, a medium chest can hold 800, and a large chest can hold 1,200.
If you prefer to store the shiny gems in separate chests, you will need a total of eight chests. In this case, the chests will hold double the amount.
Idea Two: Number Based
Overview: Sort Storybook Vale gems based on how many gems you wish to store.
To keep a certain number of each Storybook Vale gem, use the chart below to decide the size and number of chests you need.

Example: To keep 200 of each gem, you will need 32 slots. This means you would need one medium chest or two small chests.
Idea Three: By Colour
Overview: Sort gems according to their colour.
Number of chests: 2
An easy way to sort your Storybook Vale gems by colour is to split them across two chests.

This way, you end up with an equal number of each gem.
Idea Four: By Biome
Overview: Organise your gems across three chests based on the biome in which they are found.
Number of chests: 3
Each area contains its own unique gems, which makes it easy to organise them by biome.

However, with this method, you do end up with fewer gems from Everafter.
