The Quest to Magic Animals in Wylde Flowers
Like all good animal quests, it starts with Marty!
Visit Marty’s farm, and you will discover some new animals grazing in his field. Chat with him, and he will ask you to purchase one of the animals, triggering a quest to upgrade your coop.
I don’t want to spoil all the quests, but Marty’s tasks will eventually lead to missions involving Aryel, which will ultimately introduce you to magical animals!
Remember: These quests won’t trigger until at least Spring, year 2.
If you are in spring year two or later and haven’t received the tasks yet, continue working on the quests you have and keep visiting Marty!
Finding an Animal’s Favorite Food
Aryel tells us that to bring magical animals to the farm, Tara must feed animals their favorite food to give birth to the enchanted animals.
The problem is, he doesn’t explain how to figure it out! Well, the secret lies in the crystal ball.
First, brew some Crystal Ball Potion using copper essence, red dye, and paper in your basement cauldron. Then, head over to the crystal ball and pick the animal you want to breed.
The crystal ball will drop a hint about the animal’s favorite food, like whether it’s a fruit or if it grows in a specific season. Since each animal has a different favorite food, you’ll need to do this for each magical animal you want to breed.
After that, go to the animal and click on the gift icon. All the foods that aren’t its favorite will be grey, highlighting the possible favorites.
Magic Animals Tip: Magic animals cannot be bought from Marty, they must be bred in the way shown in this guide!
Feed the animal one of the possible favorite foods each day. When you find their favorite, the animal will sparkle, and you’ll get a notification to let you know you discovered its favorite food.
How To Breed Magical Animals
Magical animals are born by feeding the pregnant animal their favorite food, but the process differs slightly between birds and barn animals.
Important: Do not change the season while you are breeding a magical animal. If you have a pregnant animal in the barn or an egg in the incubator, when you change the season, it will give birth to/hatch into a regular animal.
Barn Animals
Barn animals require a fertility potion, which you can get from Aryel in Ravenwood Hollow.
Feed your animal its favorite food to make it sparkle, then give it the fertility potion.
The animal will then move into the barn and stay there until it gives birth.
Remember to visit daily to feed it its favorite food, or it will give birth to a regular baby animal!
Magical Animal Tip: Petting and relationship hearts have no effect. The most important thing when breeding magical animals is to give them their favorite food every day.
Pigs will give birth in four days, sheep and cows in seven days, and alpacas take eight days to produce offspring.
Make sure you have a good supply of the animal’s favorite food in advance to feed it every day. You don’t want to run out and miss a day!
You have to interact with a pregnant animal for it to give birth. Head over to the barn, click on the baby icon, and welcome your adorable new baby animal to farm life!
Chickens & Ducks
To breed chickens and ducks, you must hatch their eggs in the coop.
When you feed a chicken or duck their favorite food, they may lay a sparkling egg. Tara or the whirligig can collect this egg, so if you don’t see one check the whirligig.
The good thing is you don’t have to worry about feeding them every single day like you do with the barn animals. I got my first sparkling egg after feeding a chicken their favorite food for the first time!
Once you have a sparkling egg, place it in the incubator on the right side of your upgraded coop.
Magical Animals Tip: Magical chickens and ducks will produce special golden and rainbow eggs. These can also be put in the incubator to produce magical birds!
Duck and chicken eggs take four days to hatch. You don’t need to tend to the egg during this time as you do the barn animals.
After four days, head over to the incubator to hatch the egg and meet your adorable new baby bird!
Magic Animal Colors
The color of a magical animal will depend on the season in which it is born.
Spring | Summer | Fall | Winter | |
Chicken | Pink | Blue | Purple | Rainbow |
Duck | Pink | Rainbow | Purple | Blue & Pink |
Cow | Pink | Blue | Purple | Rainbow |
Sheep | Pink | Candyfloss | Purple | Rainbow |
Pig | Pink | Rainbow | Purple | Yellow |
Alpaca | Pink | Rainbow | Purple | Teal |
Note: All baby chicks are pink but will change color when they grow into adult chickens.
As you can see, there are twenty-four new animal colors to collect.
Unfortunately, only ten spots are available in your barn and ten in your coop, so you can’t own them all at the same time.
Magic Animal Produce
Along with getting some cute new farm animals, the magical animals also produce new items you can use in crafting!
Animal | Produce |
---|---|
Magical Chickens | Golden eggs |
Magical Ducks | Rainbow eggs |
Magical Cows | Rainbow milk |
Magical Sheep | Golden wool, except for rainbow alpacas which produce rainbow wool |
Magical Pigs | Pig feathers and white truffles |
Magical Alpacas | Golden wool, except for rainbow alpacas, which produce rainbow wool |
So that’s nine new animal products!
To make sure your farm is producing all possible animal products in the limited space, you will need the following:
Coop: One regular chicken, one regular duck, one magical duck, and one magical chicken. This will produce all four types of eggs, and you can fill the other six spots however you like.
Barn: One regular cow, one regular sheep, one regular pig, one regular alpaca, one magical cow, one magical pig, one magical sheep or alpaca (that is not rainbow), and one rainbow sheep or alpaca. You can choose between magical sheep and magical alpacas, as they both produce the same thing. Depending on your product needs, this leaves you with two extra spots to fill.
Animal Blessings and Boosters
Along with magical animals, year two also brings two new animal spells.
From summer onwards, you’ll be able to unlock a minor animal blessing that will help improve Tara’s relationship with her animals.
In winter, you can unlock the animal growth booster. This helpful booster will speed up an animal’s pregnancy or turn a baby into an adult. Perfect for when you’re feeling a little impatient!
