Planet Zoo Asia Animal Pack: A Complete List of Animals & Colours

The Planet Zoo Asia Animal Pack brings seven new animals to your zoo, all native to Asia.

This is the final Planet Zoo DLC before Planet Zoo 2 arrives.

There aren’t any exhibit animals in this pack, but you’ll find Bornean elephants, blackbucks, honey badgers, Japanese raccoon dogs, lion-tailed macaques, nilgai, and Père David’s deer.

There are 28 different colourmorphs to discover, and five of the seven animals have rare coats to look out for.

Here’s a full list of the animals and their colourmorphs included in the Asia Pack.

Bornean Elephant

Borneo elephants are the smallest subspecies of Asian elephant, yet they remain the largest mammals found on Borneo.

More than 300,000 years ago, Borneo elephants became isolated from other Asian elephants and started to evolve in their own way. Over time, they grew smaller and developed bigger ears, straighter tusks, and longer tails compared to other Asian elephants.

Borneo elephants are considered endangered on the IUCN Red List, with only about 1,000 remaining in the wild.

In Planet Zoo, Borneo elephants can have three different shades of grey skin, and there is also an albino version with pink skin.

Total colourmorphs: 4

Colours are listed as:

  • Grey skin
  • Dark grey skin
  • Light grey skin
  • Albino: Pink skin

Blackbuck

Blackbuck are found in the open plains and dry forests of Pakistan and northern India.

In Indian culture, the blackbuck is associated with the Hindu moon god, who is believed to ride in a chariot drawn by this antelope.

Blackbuck are very fast runners and can reach speeds up to 80 km/h (50 mph). They can outrun any predator except the cheetah.

Male blackbuck are light brown when young, and their coats turn darker as they grow older. In Planet Zoo, males only have one colour, while females come in three shades of brown. There is also a leucistic coat.

Total colourmorphs: 5

Colours are listed as:

  • Black-brown coat with white underside (male)
  • Light brown coat with white markings (female)
  • Tan coat with white markings (female)
  • Beige coat with white markings (female)
  • Leucistic: White coat

Honey Badger

Honey badgers live in Africa, Southwest Asia, and the Indian subcontinent.

Honey badgers are not true badgers. They belong to the same family but have their own subfamily, Mellivorinae, and are actually closer to wolverines. Their name comes from looking like the Eurasian badger and their love of eating honey and honeybee larvae.

Honey badgers have very thick skin, at least 6mm thick, which is thicker than almost any other animal. This helps protect them from bee stings and bites from predators like snakes.

In Planet Zoo, honey badgers come in three coat types. There is the usual black and white, plus two rare versions: albino and melanistic.

Total colourmorphs: 3

Colours are listed as:

  • Grey coat with black underside and white flank
  • Albino: Off-white coat
  • Melanistic: Black coat

Japanese Raccoon Dog

The Japanese raccoon dog, or tanuki, is native to Japan and well known in folklore as a playful trickster that can change its shape. Statues of tanuki are common throughout the country, especially outside restaurants and bars, where they’re thought to bring good luck and prosperity.

Tanuki are one of the oldest canine species. Fossils show they first appeared in Japan during the Pleistocene era, between about 2.5 million and 12,000 years ago.

Japanese raccoon dogs are one of the only canines that can climb trees, and they’re the only ones that hibernate through the winter.

Sadly, Japanese raccoon dogs are often bred in captivity for the fur trade. The Humane Society of the United States found that 70% of the faux-fur garments they tested actually contained raccoon dog fur.

In Planet Zoo, Japanese raccoon dogs come in three shades of grey and also have a leucistic coat.

Total colourmorphs: 4

Colours are listed as:

  • Grey shaggy coat with dark limbs
  • Grey-brown shaggy coat with dark limbs
  • Grey-black shaggy coat with dark limbs
  • Leucistic: White shaggy coat

Lion-Tailed Macaque

Lion-tailed macaques are found in the Western Ghats of southwest India, where they make their home in tropical rainforests and on mountain slopes.

Their thick silver mane has earned them the name ‘beard ape.’ This mane helps shield them from the heavy rains that are common in their monsoon-filled forests.

Lion-tailed macaques are endangered, with fewer than 2,500 adults left in the wild. Their population is still shrinking, and the groups that remain are spread out in different places.

In Planet Zoo, the lion-tailed macaque has only one coat color.

Total colourmorphs: 1

Colours are listed as:

  • Black shaggy coat with white facial ruff

Nilgai

The nilgai is native to the Indian subcontinent, where it is considered sacred by many Hindus, much like cattle.

Nilgai are the largest antelope in Asia and can grow up to 1.5 metres tall. Their name translates to ‘blue cow,’ referencing the bluish-grey colouration in males.

Female nilgai often give birth to twins, which is quite rare among large antelope species.

Male and female Nilgai differ in appearance, which is reflected in Planet Zoo. Males come in three shades of grey, while females have three brown variations. Both can have two rare coat types: leucistic and part-leucistic.

Total colourmorphs: 8

Colours are listed as:

Male:

  • Short dark grey coat, dark limbs, white throat patch
  • Short tan-grey coat, dark limbs, white throat patch
  • Short blue-grey coat, dark limbs, white throat patch
  • Leucistic: White roan coat
  • Part Leucistic: White coat with dark mottling

Female:

  • Short brown roan coat, white throat patch
  • Short tan coat, white throat patch
  • Short red-brown coat, white throat patch
  • Leucistic: White roan coat
  • Part Leucistic: White coat with dark mottling

Père David’s Deer

Père David’s deer are native to China, where they’re called “none of the four” thanks to their unusual mix of features: a camel’s neck, cow-like hooves, a donkey’s tail, and deer antlers.

They’re the only deer species known to grow two sets of antlers each year, with unique antlers that point up and back.

The IUCN lists them as Extinct in the Wild, but thanks to reintroduction programs, their numbers are now increasing in three national nature reserves.

In Planet Zoo, Père David’s deer have fur that comes in three different shades of brown.

Total colourmorphs: 3

Colours are listed as:

  • Brown fur
  • Pale brown fur
  • Hazel fur
